PATHWAYS TO THE PRESIDENCY
Virginia’s Eight Presidents
Summer 2013 Journey into History Camp
Staunton, VA— March 8, 2013
The state of Virginia is known for its apples, peanuts, beaches, and mountains, but its history that sets it apart. With over 16,000 years of history from the earliest artifacts of Native Americans, colonial settlements, Revolutionary War and Civil War battlefields to historic homes, Virginia is also called the “Mother of Presidents”. Eight United States Presidents were born here, more than in any other state. This summer The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum is pleased to announce its 17th Annual Summer “Journey into History Camp” Pathways to the Presidency, Virginia’s Eight Presidents. Campers will join ranks with Revolutionary War re-enactors; interact with animals, edible plants, and archeological finds, wear a powdered wig, attend an inaugural ball, participate in scavenger hunts, play presidential trivia, tour a World War I trench and much more as they discover the paths these eight men took on their way to the Presidency.
The Presidential Library will again host two fun-filled sessions of its popular Summer History Camp, suggested, but not limited to, children seven to ten years of age, from June 17th to the 21st and again from June 24 to the 28th. Each five day session, designed to instill in children the knowledge and appreciation of history through a variety of fun and educational experiences, runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Presidential Library. The cost to participate is $95.00 per child and includes daily snacks, crafts, and a camp shirt. Those interested in registering or obtaining more information about the Journey into History Camp should contact the Museum Educator at the Presidential Library, at (540) 885-0897, ext 110 or e-mail http://museumeducator@woodrowwilson.org Space in the camp is limited.
