Peace Without Victory, January 22, 1917.
"Only a peace between equals can last. Only a peace the very principle of which is equality and a common participation in a common benefit." 
                       
 Declaration of War Against Germany, April 2, 1917.
"It is a fearful thing to lead this great and peaceful people into war, into the most terrible and disastrous of all wars, civilization itself seeming to be in the balance. But the right is more precious than peace."

Fourteen Points for Peace, January 8, 1918.
"What we demand in this war, therefore, is nothing peculiar to ourselves. It is that the world be made fit and safe to live in; and particularly that it be made safe for every peace-loving nation..."

Women's Suffrage Amendment, September 30, 1918.
"I for one believe that our safety in those questioning days, as well as our comprehension of matters that touch society to the quick, will depend upon the direct and authoritative participation of women in our counsels."

Princeton In the Nation's Service, October 26, 1896, is one of Wilson's finest speeches, a clarion call for participatory democracy in which higher education accepts the responsibility to prepare its students to become dedicated citizens and leaders.
