The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum today announced that it will host an Educators’ Open House this Tuesday, March 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for area educators.  This event gives teachers the opportunity to see the Presidential Library’s new World War I Exhibit, “World War I:  The ‘Doughboy’ War,”  hear about the Presidential Library’s education programs, and tour President Wilson’s Birthplace and the Woodrow Wilson Museum.  As a part of the Open House, the Presidential Library will offer a reception for the educators.  Teachers who attend can register to win a free field trip for a class.  

The World War I exhibit is a fully immersive state-of-the-art experience that takes visitors to the battlefront during the First World War.  It includes a trench, a bunker, a command center, a triage area, lighting, sound effects, and photographs.  It opened earlier this month and is the first major expansion of the Woodrow Wilson Museum since it opened in 1990.  

The Presidential Library regularly hosts area students for interactive programs that meet Virginia Standards of Learning requirements.  In the “Journey Into History” program and the “Professor, President, Peacemaker” program, students tour President Wilson's birthplace and participate in group activities in the Woodrow Wilson Museum.  The WWPL also hosts two sessions of a summer “Journey Into History” camp, a three-day interactive history camp for seven- to ten-year-olds with a different historical theme each summer.
