George Washington
 
Popes Creek Plantation
Birthplace

The original home, Wakefield, burned on Christmas Day in 1779.  In 1931, the Memorial House and Colonial Kitchen were built on the property as a memorial to Washington and to depict the social standing of the Washington family and culture of 18th-century Virginia.  The site is maintained by the National Park Service.  Open to the public.

James Madison
Conway House
Birthplace  

James Madison was born at Conway House.  In the 1930's, the house fell into the Rappahannock River, in the area now spanned by the James Madison Memorial Bridge. There is a historic marker recognizing Madison's birthplace on the south side of the river.

James Monroe 
Birthplace   

James Monroe was born on a site now owned by Westmoreland County and spent his youth working on the family farm until leaving to pursue his education at the College of William and Mary.  The birthplace itself was dismantled before 1850.  However, the James Monroe Memorial Foundation is currently reconstructing the family farm to return it to its 18th century appearance.  The house is scheduled to be completed in 2008 with a commemorative ceremony on April 28, 2008, the 250th anniversary of Monroe's birth.  Open to the public.
