Civic Season at the WWPL
Each summer, between Juneteenth and Independence Day, communities across the country come together for Civic Season. Created by museums and young people through the Made By Us initiative, Civic Season encourages participants to deepen their understanding of history while exploring how they can help shape the future. Held between our nation’s newest and oldest federal holidays, the season features events, conversations, and activities that connect the past to the present.
This year is especially significant as the United States prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. As the nation reflects on its history, a new generation of Americans is stepping forward to help write its next chapter. Through Civic Season programs such as Slice of History Pizza Parties and National Youth Takeover Day, young people are invited to engage with history, connect with their communities, and explore what active citizenship means today.
