Slavery In Wilson’s Birthplace

History is not a single narrative, it's a collection of voices, experiences, and perspectives. At the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library & Museum, we are committed to sharing the full story of our historic site, including those voices that have too often gone unheard.

Join us for an important guided tour that explores the lives of the enslaved individuals who lived and labored at the Presbyterian Manse where Woodrow Wilson was born. This powerful experience sheds light on the often-overlooked history of those whose work sustained this historic site and shaped the community around it.

Through historical research, period documents, and archaeological evidence, we examine the daily lives, experiences, and resilience of enslaved people in antebellum Staunton. Their stories are an essential part of our history and deserve to be told with dignity and respect.

Schedule: Every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 PM

Admission: $25 per person

Arrival Time: Please arrive at least 10 minutes early

Tickets: Due to limited capacity, we strongly recommend calling ahead to ensure tour availability at (540) 885-0897. Tours are subject to staff availability and may be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.

By acknowledging and learning about the experiences of enslaved people who lived and worked at historic sites like the Manse, we honor their memory and ensure their stories are not forgotten.

This tour is an opportunity for education, reflection, and dialogue. We invite visitors to approach this experience with openness and respect as we explore this important aspect of American history together.
